Synopsis

This guide will show you how to recover Microsoft 365 teams with Online Backup.

Prerequisite

You must have administrator credentials for:

  1. Online Backup
  2. Your Microsoft 365 organization

What items can be recovered?

The following items can be recovered from a site backup: 

  • Entire team
  • Team channel
  • Channel files
  • Team mailbox
  • Email folders in the team mailbox
  • Email messages in the team's mailbox
  • Meetings
  • Team site

 

Limitations
The following are not backed up:

  • Settings of the general channel (moderation preferences) - due to a Microsoft Teams beta API limitation
  • Settings of the general channel (moderation preferences) - due to a Microsoft Teams beta API limitation
  • Meeting notes
  • Messages in the chat section (these are private one-on-one or group chats)
  • Stickers and Praises

Backup and recovery are supported for the following channel tabs:

  • Word
  • Excel
  • PowerPoint
  • PDF
  • Document Library

Files that are in Shared private Channels are backed up, but not restored due to an API limitation.

Group membership is not protected, only specifically added members in teams. Which means that if a team was created due to a M365 group and that group is deleted, restoring the team from Acronis won't restore the permissions of the people that had access via the M365 group.

 

Items can be recovered to the original or a non-original team. The path to a recovered item is the same as the original one. If the path does not exist, it is created.

 

You cannot recover conversations in team channels, but you can download them as single html file.

 

How to

1. Sign into the Online Backup console as a company administrator through the Partner Portal using the SSO or log in to the following link https://backup.cld.services/login.

 

2. Click on Microsoft Office 365.

 

 

3. Expand the Teams node, select All teams, select the team which contains the items that you want to recover, and then click Recovery.

 

 

 

4. Select a recovery point, then click Recover. Then choose what you want to recover, whether it is channels, an entire team, email messages, or a team site.

 

 

5. If you chose to recover Channels items, you will get to choose the channel and the items that you want to recover or download.

 

If you chose to recover an Entire team, you will have to specify on which team it needs to be recovered and whether to recover site sharing permissions at the same time.

 
You will then have to choose if you want to overwrite the existing content or not.


If you choose to recover Email messages, you will get to choose the messages that you want to recover or download as PST files. You can also choose to send them as an email.

 
If you chose to recover Team site, you will get to choose the items that you want to recover from the selected sites.
