Purpose

This article provides step-by-step instructions for global administrators to configure Dropsuite backups for Microsoft 365, including authentication methods, workload configuration, and verification.

Step 1: Log in to Dropsuite

Go to https://portal.dropsuite.com and log in with your credentials.

Step 2: Add a Backup

In the Dropsuite portal, navigate to Usage and click Add Backup.

Step 3: Add Microsoft 365 Account

Under Add New Backup, select Microsoft 365 and sign in using your Microsoft 365 credentials.

Authentication Methods

Dropsuite supports two authentication methods. Choose one based on your environment.

Option 1: Service Principal Authentication (Recommended)

This method uses OAuth for secure connection. 
 
Prerequisites:
API Access: Verify that API access is enabled for your Microsoft 365 account. This allows Dropsuite to communicate with Microsoft 365 services.
**This currently does not support Groups & Teams’ calendar and group email attachments.**
 

Option 2: Global Admin Authentication (Legacy)

This method uses basic authentication with a username and password. 
Prerequisites:
Microsoft 365 Admin Account: Permission configuration
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): If MFA is enabled for your Microsoft 365  account, ensure that you have configured app passwords or other methods to allow Dropsuite to authenticate.

Step 4: Configure Workloads

After authentication:
  1. Navigate to Workload Configuration in the Dropsuite portal.

     

     

  2. Select workloads to back up (Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive for Business).

     
  3. Configure backup frequency, retention policies, and data inclusion/exclusion.

     
  4. Click Save Configuration.
 

Step 5: Verify Backup Configuration

After configuring Dropsuite, it is important to verify that the backup process is working correctly.
this can be verify with the following steps
  1. Check Backup Status: Go to Backup Status in the portal.

     
  2. Test Data Recovery: Perform a restore test to confirm data integrity.

     
  3. Review Logs: Navigate to Logs for errors or issues.
