Important Information Links for Exchange 2016

Cumulus & Exchange Control Panel

Cumulus is the billing and service adding/removing portal. When logged into Cumulus you will have an option Manage 2016 Platform, clicking this will bring you directly to the Exchange Control Panel so you can manage users, change licences, reset passwords, etc.

Outlook Web App

DNS Records

* Make sure that no local DNS entry could affect the DNS changes (e.g. hosts file, local DNS, local Active Directory SCP).

If your domain is an External Relay (Split Domain) and some email addresses are NOT hosted by SherWeb, please forward/redirect emails from the external server to ours.

Outlook Configuration on PC

The easiest way to proceed is with the auto-connect configuration method. Make sure the Autodiscover DNS record is active and pinging to the new server. Do not delete the existing Outlook profile, but create a new one with a different name.

Note: Because some items, such as Outlook Rules, Junk Email Settings and Signatures, are not migrated, they must be migrated manually.

Outlook configuration on Mac

Users of Outlook 2016 will need to create a new profile.

Then, proceed with the configuration of their mail client software.

Mobile devices with ActiveSync

The ActiveSync service needs to be activated for any user that require it before attempting to configure their mobile device. In our Control Panel, select the user, then click Activate under the ActiveSync section.

Anti Spam Filter

Every mailbox migrated will have its spam filtering level set to medium by default. The guides below will help you better understand how our Anti-Spam filter works and how to customize it. An admin user can manage the users individually or the entire organization as a whole. However, users can also manage their own individual settings as well, if permitted.

*Spam Filter blacklists and whitelists will not be migrated automatically, so you will need to manually copy them to the New Control Panel.

Autocomplete list

As a friendly reminder, the Autocomplete list cannot be migrated or accessed by the migration tool. Here is how to transfer the AutoComplete cache from the old Outlook profile to the new one, after the cutover:

If you migrate from an on-premise or local Exchange server (to do only AFTER the migration is complete)

Step 1: Backing up the IIS configuration

First backing-up the current local IIS configuration is very important. If for some reason you need to undo these actions later on, this backup will allow you to do so easily:

  1. Open an elevated Windows command prompt (i.e. run cmd.exe as an administrator).
  2. Run the following command to back up the IIS configuration:

%windir%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe add backup "Before Removing Autodiscover"

Step 2: Removing the Autodiscover Virtual Directory

  1. Open an elevated Exchange Management Shell (i.e. Run as an administrator).
  2. Retrieve the current autodiscover virtual directory with the following command:

Get-AutodiscoverVirtualDirectory | fl Name, Server, InternalUrl, Identity

  1. Copy the entire Identity value to the clipboard, including any space and (Default Website Site), if present.
  2. Remove the autodiscover virtual directory with the command below. The full identity value should be enclosed in quotation marks:

Remove-AutodiscoverVirtualDirectory -Identity "identity value retrieved above"

  1. Check that the autodiscover virtual directory is gone. This command should now return nothing:

Get-AutodiscoverVirtualDirectory | fl Name, Server, InternalUrl, Identity

Step 3: Removing the AutoDiscover Internal URI

  1. Open an elevated Exchange Management Shell (i.e. Run as an administrator).
  2. Retrieve the name of your client access server:

Get-ClientAccessServer

  1. Remove the current AutoDiscover internal URI with the command below. The name of your client access server should be enclosed in quotation marks:

Set-ClientAccessServer -Identity "NAME" -AutoDiscoverServiceInternalUri $null

It is not a certainty, but users may have to create a new Outlook profile afterwards. However, its settings should not revert to the old service anymore.
