Description
Using the “Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Teams”, you can connect to your service provider to explore your backups and perform restores.
Requirements
- The account to be used to log in to Microsoft 365 must be assigned the “Global Administrator” role or the “Teams Administrator” role in the Microsoft tenant.
- The user account must also have a Microsoft Office 365 license that permits access to Microsoft Teams API. The minimum sufficient license is Microsoft Teams Exploratory experience.
- To send restored items, SMTP settings must be configured in Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Teams. For more information, please see this link: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/explorers/vet_configuring_smtp.html?ver=110
Notes
- The amount of data you can send at a time via email depends on your SMTP server configuration and limitations.
- The ability to send emails from the backup server may depend on your SMTP server configuration and/or your DNS configuration. If not already authorized, you may have to authorize the WAN IP address of the backup server to allow emails to be sent from it. You may also need to adjust your DNS records. See this article for details about Sender Policy Framework (SPF).
- Please make sure to have enough free disk space on the backup server to store restored files. Especially for large size exports.
- Microsoft Teams messages cannot be restored directly back to Teams.
- M365 backup powered by Veeam does not restore posts to their original location in the team channel. Instead, M365 backup powered by Veeam creates a new tab in the original channel and restores posts to this tab. If you want to restore posts to another channel, use the export operation.
- As part of Microsoft Teams data backup, M365 backup powered by Veeam backs up only the following types of channel tabs: Website, Planner, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, PDF, Document Library, OneNote, SharePoint, Stream, Forms, Power BI, Power Automate (ex Flow) and Azure DevOps.
- When you perform a backup of Microsoft Teams data, M365 backup powered by Veeam does not back up the following objects:
- Private channels
- One-on-one and group chats
For more information about chats in Microsoft Teams, see this Microsoft article. You can use Veeam Explorer for Microsoft Exchange to explore data from user mailboxes and view chat messages as MSG files. - Audio and video calls
- Video recordings
- Contacts
- Calendar: information about meetings and meeting chats
- Code snippets in posts
- Banner notifications in posts
- Data of applications added as channel tabs (such as Website, Planner, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, PDF, Document Library, OneNote, SharePoint, Stream, Forms, Power BI, Power Automate and Azure DevOps) and other 3rd party applications if their data does not reside in the SharePoint document library of the team.
