How to connect to a VM via console

Synopsis

This guide will show you how to connect to a virtual machine in console in Performance Cloud.

Prerequisite

You must be a Performance Cloud client.

How to

Connect to Console

Connecting to a virtual machine using the console option creates a connection to the virtual machine using the RDP protocol.

Note: Connecting to the console is possible only from Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, an up-to-date Windows 7 or an up-to-date Windows Server 2008 R2. For Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008, a separate hotfix is available at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2830477 however it is already included in the Windows updates.

No patch is out for Windows 8, the only solution at the moment is to upgrade to Windows 8.1.

  1. Select the virtual machine instance to which you want to connect and from the command bar, click Connect and then click Console.
  2. In the Connect to Console dialog box, read the information, and then click the checkmark.
  3. Towards the bottom of the screen, click Open to use the remote desktop protocol file that is automatically created for the virtual machine.
  4. When prompted to identify the remote connection, click Connect and then click Yes to connect to the virtual machine.
