Situation
You are needing to configure the journaling rule for a specific group of users.
Prerequisites
These are the requirements to be able to create the journaling rule for a specific group of users.
- Admin access to the Google Workspace account
- Access to your journal SMTP mailbox address
- Active Dropsuite Archiving subscriptions
- A group of the users created in your Google Workspace that require the journaling

Configure Journaling
This guide will show you how to set up the sending and receiving routing settings for a group of users.
Receiving Routing Settings
- Sign into your Google Workspace admin console.
- On the main menu, select Apps > Google Workspace > Gmail.
- Select Advanced Settings at the bottom of the page.
- This step is optional, if you have multiple organizations, or units, select the one in question in the left hand column.
- Under routing, scroll down to the "Routing" setting and select the configure option. If this setting is already configured, hover over the setting and select "Add another".
- Next, enter a short name/ description to help you identify the setting in the future.
- The next part at point number 1 titled "Messages to affect", you will need to select the check boxes beside "Inbound" and "Internal - receiving".
- Next, at point 2 "Envelop Filter", first select "Only affect specific envelope recipients", and then in the dropdown select "Group membership (only received mail)".
- You will then need to select the group this will apply to.
- Next, at point 3 "For the above types of messages, do the following", under "Also deliver to", select "Add more recipients", "Add", and then finally "Advanced".
- Next, select "Do not deliver spam to this recipient" and "Suppress bounces from this recipient".
- Back on the "Envelope recipient" section, select the checkbox to "Change envelope recipient". You will then need to select "Replace recipient". This would be where you will need to enter your Journaling SMTP mailbox address.
- Next, under the "Headers" section select "Add custom headers" and enter the following: DME-JOURNAL-REPORT:true
- Lastly select "Save" for the custom header, then "ADD SETTING" in the bottom right-hand corner and then "SAVE" once again in the bottom right-hand corner.
Sending Routing Settings
- Sign into your Google Workspace admin console.
