Upgrade Veeam Backup & Replication (VBR) using the Veeam Service Provider Console (VSPC) with Sherweb

Description

With the Veeam Service Provider Console (VSPC) with Sherweb, you will be notified about available updates on Veeam products you manage. In this article, we will update Veeam Backup & Replication (VBR) using the Veeam Service Provider Console (VSPC).

Requirements

- The Veeam management agent was previously deployed on the destination machine. If the agent is not already installed, here is the article about the deployment of the Veeam management agent.


- Have credentials with the local Administrator permissions on the destination machine


- Validate that the destination machine meets all requirements: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/upgrade_vbr_byb.html?ver=120


- Only users with the one of the following roles assigned can proceed with this procedure: Service Provider Global Administrator, Service Provider Administrator, Service Provider Operator.

Before upgrading Veeam Backup & Replication (VBR), please ensure that no backup or replication job and no restore session is running. The Veeam Backup & Replication (VBR) console must also be closed on the backup server.

Procedure

  1. From the Veeam Service Provider Console (VSPC) portal, in the Product Updates section, click on Veeam Backup & Replication.

  2. Then, select the desired machine, click on Server Actions and click on Upgrade Server

  3. On the new window, keep the recommended option to download the software and click on Next.

  4. Specify an account with local Administrator permissions on the selected server and click on Next.

  5. Download the configuration file sample.

  6. Open the configuration file sample with a text editor (like notepad) and customize the file according to your needs. For more information about customizing the configuration file, click on View Help.

  7. Once the file is properly filled, click on Browse and select your configuration file. Then, click on Next.

  8. Specify the desired schedule and options to upgrade your backup server and click on Next.

  9. Review the summary and click on Finish.

  10. Wait for the upgrade to complete. This can take several minutes. Click on the deployment status for details.
